Job summary

North Freeze Dry, LLC in Little Falls, MN seeks a Boiler Operator to maintain high‑pressure boilers, air compressors, pumps and related equipment across the facility.

The ideal candidate has a 2nd Class Boiler Operator License or is pursuing one, 2+ years’ industrial boiler experience, ability to read blueprints and manuals, and strong logging and reporting skills; overnight shift availability a plus. This role emphasizes safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of boiler operations experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and technical manuals.
  • Basic computer skills for logging and reporting.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain high‑pressure boilers, air compressors, pumps and related equipment.
  • Monitor boiler operations, water levels, fuel usage and chemical levels.
  • Perform routine boiler inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Respond to alarms, emergencies and system abnormalities.
  • Conduct daily mechanical rounds and inspections across the facility.
  • Assist with valve, pump, belt, bearing and seal replacement.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions and report findings; assist with minor repairs.
  • Log shift activities and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to maintain plant operation.
  • Maintain a clean boiler room and work area.

Job description

Purpose of the Position

This position is responsible for preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and repairs to include industrial equipment, production equipment, utility, and facility systems. This role is critical for maintaining steam and hot water systems throughout our facility, while also troubleshooting and assisting with mechanical systems and equipment. Our ideal candidate possesses a 2nd Class Grade B Boiler Operator License. However, Special Engineers willing to obtain are encouraged to apply!

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain high-pressure boilers, air compressors, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Monitor and record boiler operations, water levels, fuel usage, and chemical levels.
  • Perform routine boiler inspections and preventative maintenance according to company and regulatory standards.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and system abnormalities.
  • Conduct daily mechanical rounds and inspections throughout the facility.
  • Assist with mechanical maintenance tasks such as replacing valves, pumps, belts, bearings, seals, and other system components.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, provide accurate reporting, and assist in minor repairs.
  • Monitor and maintain logs on all shift activities, noting any mechanical or operational concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams during shift changes to ensure continuous plant operation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized boiler room and work area.
Qualifications
  • Valid 2nd Class Boiler Operator License (State Certified) preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in boiler operations in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Comfortable working independently on the overnight shift with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer skills for logging and reporting.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and perform tasks in confined spaces or elevated areas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a manufacturing or food processing facility.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems.
  • Welding or fabrication experience a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employees must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.

Occasionally while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to machinery and moving parts, airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extended seasonal hours, high precarious places, and confined spaces. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection.
