Job summary

Western State Hospital, part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, is hiring Licensed Practical Nurses for Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM. Join a 24/7 psychiatric facility offering a sign-on bonus and competitive shift differentials.

Qualifications

• Current Virginia or Compact LPN licensure (or eligibility).
• Knowledge of mental illness, treatment modalities, and safe medication administration.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise nursing staff.
• Effective communication (written, verbal, sign) in a team setting.
• Must work overtime or extended shifts in a 24/7 psychiatric hospital.
• BLS certification for Healthcare Providers (AHA).
• Completion of mandatory competencies including TOVA III.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 24/7 psychiatric hospital under RN supervision.
• Offer work direction to PNA staff and maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
• Document accurately and report patient information per policy.
• Administer medications and treatments and educate patients accordingly.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to support recovery goals.
• Support unit milieu management and supply medication rooms and audits.
• Utilize EHR to document care and communicate with the team.
• Attend required trainings and annual competencies in a timely manner.
