Job summary

RR Donnelley & Sons is seeking a Press Operator 2 for our Elk Grove Village facility. The role requires operating and leading a press crew, setting up multiple press types, and maintaining quality standards.

The job offers a 7pm–7am shift, a $1,000 sign-on bonus, and a $3.00 shift premium. Responsibilities include press setup, color correction, maintenance, and collaboration with prepress, maintenance, and other crews to ensure accurate, timely production.

Qualifications

  • Requires thorough knowledge of offset printing procedures, materials and specifications, equipment, and safety requirements.
  • Skill to read and understand job specifications and to determine press usage and materials.
  • Skill to perform precise control settings and routine maintenance.
  • Knowledge of in-line finishing, die cutting, inserters, imagers, color and register.
  • Excellent color reproduction and registration awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Operate web printing press to print quality production and lead press crew.
  • Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain Litho Press, inline double web press, Harris M10, and mini web press to print single- to multi-color jobs.
  • Review job specifications to determine press setup according to imposition.
  • Perform make-ready tasks and inspect plates/cylinders for imperfections.
  • Make color corrections and press adjustments to meet quality specs.
  • Maintain and repair press; perform preventive maintenance.
  • Lead safety initiatives and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Maintain documentation of time, materials, impressions, and run speeds.
  • Communicate with other crews and departments to coordinate jobs.

Job Description

RRD is looking for an energetic, and highly motivated team member to join our team of Press Operators at our Elk Grove Village facility.

Job Title: Press Operator 2

  • Operate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, and work on other operation duties as directed by the supervisors

  • Set up, adjust, operate, and maintaina Litho Press, In-line double web press, Harris M10, and a mini web 6 colorweb printing pressor , multi-color offset press to print single-color, two-color, and/or multi-color work which includes large solids, screen tints, line and halftones with critical color values and registration requirements ranging from hairline to critical.

  • Review job specifications to determine the press setup according to the imposition of the run (sheet wise or work and turn).

  • Perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examine plates/cylinders for imperfections and checks for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register etc

  • Makes necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work.

  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required.

  • Performs periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer.

  • Act as a leader in providing and promoting a safe andinjury-free work environment.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the press and press crew.

  • Responsible for over all quality of the printed product including color reproduction, product specifications, imaging quality and postal specifications.

  • Determines when product is suitable for saving.

  • Responsible for producing a sample-quality product.

  • Provides accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds.

  • Communicates information effectively with other crews and departments, scheduling, prepress, maintenance.

  • Coordinates make-ready process by reviewing job information, establishing make-ready plan, and assigning responsibilities to crew members.

  • Responsible for maintaining a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press, and using the "Request For Action" system to notify the maintenance department of issues with the equipment

  • Share your expertise and help train other employees as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned

Shifts: 7pm - 7am

Sign On Bonus $1000 (distributed in monthly payments after meeting job requirements)

Shift Premium: $3.00

Qualifications
  • Requires thorough knowledge of offset printing procedures, materials and specifications, equipment, and safety requirements and skills to perform assignments
  • Skill to read and understand job specifications and knowledge of press capabilities to determine the most appropriate press usage, press settings and materials needed to run the job successfully
  • Skill to make a variety of difficult precise settings of controls, settings, and adjustments, and to perform routine operational maintenance of equipment
  • Skill in routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
  • Knowledge of the appropriate amount of packing pressure needed to obtain the proper printing pressure for the type of job being run
  • Skill in use of micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5-8 years web press-printing experience.
  • Knowledge of in-line finishing, die cutting, inserters, imagers, color and register is required

Pay Disclosure Statement

The pay range for this role at the noted location is $27.34 to $39.29 per hour. The actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay. RRD offers benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, disability insurance, 401(k) with match, life insurance and other voluntary supplemental insurance coverages, plus tuition assistance, maternity leave, adoption assistance, and employer/partner discounts.
