Job summary

Salvation Army USA is seeking a motivated Web Communications Intern to support summer web projects, focusing on website migration, front‑end modernization, and technical documentation. The role involves migrating production sites to Google Cloud, improving HTML/CSS/JS code quality and responsive layouts, and assisting CMS integration.

The intern will work closely with the National Web Manager to update code, implement accessibility best practices, and contribute to documentation.

Qualifications

• Junior/Senior undergraduate student pursuing a degree in web development, computer science, information systems, digital media, or a related field.
• Strong foundation in front-end web technologies (HTML/CSS/JS) and responsive design.
• Familiarity with Bootstrap and modern front-end frameworks preferred.
• Basic understanding of cloud hosting platforms (e.g., Google Cloud) preferred.
• Experience with CMS such as WordPress or similar platforms preferred.
• Ability to document technical information clearly and work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Migrate production websites from legacy hosting to Google Cloud-based infrastructure.
• Audit codebases and structures to identify outdated patterns and opportunities for modernization.
• Refactor and update front-end code for responsive design and accessibility.
• Assist CMS integration to improve content workflows and maintainability.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for migrations, hosting, and front-end standards.
• Assist with managing content on salvationarmyusa.org and select program sites.
