Web Designer / Developer, Washington, D.C. area

Experienced web designer/developer responsible for creating the look and feel of WWW pages for client's Web sites. This involves developing a graphic design that effectively communicates the ideas being promoted by the Web site. Take part in the initial planning of a Web site, meeting with engineers to discuss ideas for the layout and organization of the site, and other matters concerning overall graphic design.

Must have a minimum of a BA/BS or equivalent of full-time experience in web design or related areas. Have a background in fine arts, graphic design, or publishing.

The candidates for this position should be able to perform the following duties:

• Conceive, create, and execute layouts, designs, logos, and graphics for online biomedical databases;
• Create color palettes and follow standard design techniques to create attractive and functional user interfaces;
• Apply user-centered design techniques and best practices to design websites and create a positive user experience;
• Implement new product features into new and existing web sites;
• Multitask between regular task requests, small projects and work as a team on larger projects;
• Proficient in the use of design programs such as: Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat;
• Knowledge of Graphics Design principles, production, layout and design;
• Creative drive and flair for design and visual conceptualization;
• A mastery of HTML, CSS, XML, and XSLT;
• Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications;
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
