Job summary

Scale AI, based in San Francisco, seeks an experienced Web/Visual Designer to craft responsive, accessible, and high-fidelity web experiences across scale.com and related properties. Collaborate with engineers to translate concepts into production-ready designs, while evolving the brand identity and leveraging AI-assisted workflows.

You will lead design during fast-paced development, create reusable components, and mentor teams on best practices in UI/UX, with a strong emphasis on performance

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in web design, digital design, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Figma for design systems, components, prototyping, and developer handoff.
• Understanding of responsive design, typography, layout systems, accessibility, and modern UI/UX principles.
• Knowledge of HTML and CSS; familiarity with front-end frameworks is a plus.

The Scale Interactive Brand Studio (9 people full-time) is responsible for Scale’s visual identity and brand strategy, the design and development of scale.com, and the creation of original creative content (videos, ads, social assets, and swag). We design for a variety of applications including trade show booths, printed marketing materials, and digital advertising. We grow the team with intention - adding ambitious, motivated talent that will build Scale’s brand perception by executing with pace and quality. This role reports to the Manager of Web Experience.

You will:

• Design Exceptional Web Experiences: Design responsive, visually compelling website layouts, page templates, graphics, and interactive UI patterns across Scale's digital properties, with a primary focus on scale.com.

• Build for Scale: Create reusable design components, patterns, and systems that establish consistency across web experiences while enabling teams to move quickly and efficiently.

• Translate Ideas into Designs: Develop wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that translate business objectives, brand direction, and user needs into intuitive digital experiences.

• Bridge Design and Development: Partner closely with web engineers to communicate design intent, prepare implementation-ready specifications, review builds, and ensure high-quality execution.

• Design for Performance and Usability: Apply responsive design, accessibility, usability, and web performance best practices to create experiences that work seamlessly across devices and screen sizes.

• Evolve the Brand: Champion consistent application of Scale's visual identity while exploring new design directions that reflect the company's growth, innovation, and position in the AI industry.

• Experiment with Emerging Technology: Explore AI-powered design and development tools, rapid prototyping, and new interaction patterns to accelerate workflows and push the boundaries of modern web experiences.

• Iterate with Impact: Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to incorporate feedback, evaluate design effectiveness, and continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of our web experiences.

You are:

• You have 8+ years of experience in web design, digital design, visual design, or a related field, supported by a portfolio demonstrating strong visual craft, web design expertise, and shipped digital experiences.

• You are proficient in Figma for design systems, component libraries, prototyping, and developer handoff. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, AEM, Canva tools is a plus.

• You understand responsive design, typography, layout systems, accessibility, interaction design, and modern web UI/UX principles. You can design within technical constraints without compromising the quality of the experience.

• You understand how designs translate into production websites and have working knowledge of HTML and CSS. You can create scalable design patterns and reusable components that maintain visual consistency across complex websites and content types. Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks, component-based architectures, and CMS platforms is a plus.

• You know how to create scalable patterns and reusable components while maintaining visual consistency across complex websites and multiple content types.

• You are excited about emerging AI tools and their potential to transform design and development workflows. You actively experiment with new tools and bring fresh ideas to the team.

• You balance speed with craft, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-moving environment.

• You communicate clearly, welcome constructive feedback, solve problems proactively, and work effectively with design, engineering, marketing, and brand partners.

Nice to haves:

• Experience designing and implementing motion graphics, animations, and micro-interactions for digital experiences.

• Familiarity with modern web development workflows and frameworks such as React and Next.js, as well as deployment platforms such as Vercel.

• Experience working with headless CMS platforms, particularly Sanity, and designing flexible, modular page templates.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted design, prototyping, and vibe-coding tools for rapidly exploring and building interactive web experiences.

• Experience using web analytics, experimentation, or user research to inform design decisions and improve user journeys.

• Experience creating data visualizations, technical graphics, or complex information experiences.

• An interest in the AI industry and an understanding of Scale's mission and products.
