This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate.

Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

  • Support planning and coordination of equipment installation, commissioning, and facility modification activities.
  • Assist the Project Manager in managing subcontract requirements, contractor activities, vendor coordination, and LLNL shop support.
  • Review project documents and provide input during design, including basic constructability feedback.
  • Review contractors' schedule for proper installation sequence and critical paths required for a project. Help ensure work is performed safely, meets quality standards, and aligns with project documents and specifications.
  • Support work control documentation as a Responsible Individual (RI) and assist in subcontract technical activities as assigned.
  • Prepare or help prepare health and safety documentation aligned with Integrated Safety Management requirements.
  • Participate in design and prestart reviews.
  • Support startup and commissioning plans, punch list development, final inspections, and project closeout activities.
  • Serve as a point of contact for assigned installation and modification activities, coordinating with technical SMEs, facility operations, Weapons Program staff, procurement, and ES&H personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the TSS.3 level

  • Independently manage assigned installation and modification projects, including coordinating scope, schedule, cost, and technical interfaces across multiple stakeholders.
  • Evaluate constructability, sequencing, and operational impacts for moderately complex facility and equipment installation work and recommend alternatives to resolve issues.
  • Develop comprehensive installation inspection plans for programmatic equipment installation and commissioning in accordance with project requirements.
Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of construction management practices, including equipment installation, supporting utilities, and facility modifications.
  • Experience supporting equipment installation or construction activities in a technical or industrial environment.
  • Experience interpreting and applying applicable safety standards, codes, laws, regulations, ES&H policies, and OSHA requirements to assigned work.
  • Ability to analyze issues, identify practical solutions, and contribute to successful project execution.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present technical or operational information.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office and project tracking tools such as MS Project or similar software.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction design drawings, to include piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical diagrams, and structural drawings.

Additional qualifications at the TSS.3 level

  • Experience leading technical coordination for equipment installation, commissioning, or facility modification projects in a regulated, mission-critical, or high-consequence environment.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, and implementing work control, safety, and commissioning documentation with limited direction.
  • Ability to interpret and integrate multiple technical disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, structural, utilities, and controls, into a coordinated project execution plan.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with projects combining both facilities modifications and technical equipment installation.
  • Familiarity with commonly used construction management and computer-aided design software.
  • Experience in estimating construction and equipment installation projects.
  • Experience supporting scientific or technical equipment commissioning.
  • Experience working in regulated or mission-critical environments.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory operations and business processes.
  • Experience serving as a technical point of contact for contractors, SMEs, facility operations, and project staff on complex installation or modification efforts.
