Job summary

Corient in Boston, MA is seeking a senior estate planning attorney to serve as the firm’s planning expert for clients with $10M+ in investable assets. You will design sophisticated estate, tax, and wealth transfer analyses and present clear recommendations to Wealth Advisors and clients.

The role requires at least 5 years of law firm estate planning practice, JD, and advanced credentials; CPA/CFP/CPWA/CTFA valued.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex estate planning and wealth transfer work for HNW/UHNW clients as the planning expert.
  • Communicate sophisticated planning concepts clearly to clients and Wealth Advisors.
  • Support business development by showcasing advanced planning capabilities to clients and referral partners.
  • Mentor and train Wealth Advisors and staff on estate planning and wealth transfer strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for estate, tax, and wealth transfer reviews with clients and advisors.

Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise
  • Serve as the team’s subject matter expert for complex estate planning and wealth transfer matters impacting HNW and UHNW clients. Identify, design, and communicate sophisticated planning analyses and recommendations tailored to families with $10M+ in investable assets.

Lead planning discussions related to:

  • Estate planning and wealth transfer techniques
  • Trust structures and trust optimization
  • Trust administration
  • Generational wealth transfer and family legacy planning
  • Asset protection and risk management
  • Charitable and philanthropic planning
  • Family governance
  • Business succession and liquidity event planning

Communicate sophisticated planning concepts in a clear, practical, and client-friendly manner.

Advisor Partnership & Client Engagement
  • Partner closely with Wealth Advisors as the planning expert with the firm’s most complex client relationships.
  • Support business development efforts by demonstrating the firm’s advanced planning capabilities to prospective clients and referral partners.
  • Support Wealth Advisors in deepening client relationships through comprehensive and proactive planning.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for Wealth Advisors and internal team members.
  • Identify estate, tax, trust, and wealth transfer opportunities for review with clients, Wealth Advisors, and clients’ external legal and tax advisors.
  • Coach and counsel Wealth Advisors on estate planning and wealth transfer strategies via formal training or as part of client relationship reviews.
  • Become a subject matter expert, staying current on planning issues, communicating updates to staff, and contributing content to the Firm’s thought leadership
  • Contribute to the Firm’s strategic direction of its wealth planning service offering.
  • Mentor planners and help drive their development
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of law firm practice in estate planning.
  • Significant experience advising families with $10M+ in investable assets.
  • Deep expertise in tax planning, estate planning, and multigenerational wealth transfer strategies.
  • Experience collaborating with estate attorneys, CPAs, and other external professional advisors.
  • Proficiency with estate planning, financial planning, and tax projection software; Vanilla, NumberCruncher; eMoney, Holistiplan, etc.
  • Professional, personable, tactful, efficient, and self-motivated.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-based, collaborative environment.
  • Not just a proficient technician. Experience presenting to clients in a competent, confident, persuasive, and empathetic manner. Able to formulate knowledgeable and convincing answers to tough questions on the spot.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, commitment to accuracy, service-minded approach, and meticulous attention to detail required.
Education & Credentials
  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor (JD) required.
  • Additional advanced credentials such as CPA, CFP, CPWA, or CTFA are highly valued
Pay Information

This position is exempt and is paid according to the laws of the State of Massachusetts. The pay range for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 USD per year. We are required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
