Wayne Presbyterian Church is a 1,400-member congregation located in the heart of Wayne, Pennsylvania, known for its welcoming spirit, strong community involvement, and rich tradition. The church currently averages 300 attendees each week across two traditional worship services and has recently experienced a revitalization of its youth ministry following years of staff transition. With a newly appointed senior pastor and a committed team, the church is entering a hopeful new chapter focused on building long-term sustainability and impact.

About the Ministry

Wayne Presbyterian’s youth ministry is in an exciting season of growth, with a strong core of engaged students, active parent support, and a collaborative staff team. Weekly participation is already exceeding national norms, fueled by a vibrant mix of Sunday school, youth group, retreats, service projects, and the beloved annual Montreat trip. With momentum on its side, the ministry is ready for a visionary leader who can build on a solid foundation and help shape the next chapter of impact, discipleship, and student leadership.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal leader for this role is a relational and strategic team builder—someone who brings both warmth and vision, capable of equipping volunteers, mentoring students, and shaping a sustainable discipleship strategy. They should be energized by collaboration, culturally aware of student rhythms, and passionate about helping young people grow in faith and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

- Direct Weekly Youth Programs and Classes: Plan and lead Youth Group, Confirmation, and Sunday School with creative, faith-based programming.

- Train and Supervise Volunteers and Interns: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers, maintain safety compliance, and build a strong leadership team.

- Coordinate Special Events and Trips: Organize retreats, mission trips, and service projects that foster community and spiritual growth.

- Provide Outreach and Fellowship for Young Adults and College Students: Build relationships with local students and offer opportunities for engagement.

- Integrate the Youth Program with Other Ministries: Collaborate across church ministries to connect youth with worship, missions, and family faith development.

- Develop and Lead a Discipleship Strategy: Create a pathway for spiritual growth and leadership development for middle and high school students.

Qualifications

- Strong organizational skills; self-motivated and a team player

- Understanding of teenage and young adult development and relevant educational literature

- Ability to effectively use and train others on curricula and teaching materials

- Capable of preparing and teaching weekly lessons to youth and young adults

- Skilled in motivating, recruiting, and managing teams

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

- Bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry or a related field (preferred)

- Culturally aware of student life rhythms and able to adapt ministry accordingly
