Job summary

Volusia County is seeking an experienced Treatment Plant Operator for the Water Resources & Utilities Division to operate and monitor water and/or wastewater treatment plants. At trainee level, you work under a Class C Operator until certification; higher levels come with increased responsibilities and pay.

The role requires a GED or high school diploma, a valid Florida driver’s license, and current certifications. Typical duties include testing, reporting, and maintaining plant equipment.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma and a valid Florida driver's license at hire.
• Current Florida DEP Operator Certifications required for higher levels.
• Must maintain certifications active.

Responsibilities

• Operate treatment plant equipment to purify water and monitor processes.
• Monitor and control flows; adjust chemicals and dosing as needed.
• Complete MOR and DMR reports in a timely manner.
• Respond to emergency situations and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Perform routine maintenance and testing of water samples and equipment.
