Job summary

Veolia in North America is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead end-to-end delivery of major water/wastewater infrastructure initiatives. You will coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, and corporate leadership to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

You will oversee budgets, timelines, and compliance with environmental and health & safety standards, traveling 30-40% to field sites as required. A PE license and PMP are highly desired for this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering or related field is required.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience managing large/complex water/wastewater design and construction projects.

Job Description

Position Purpose:

Responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex, large-scale capital infrastructure projects. This role serves as a subject matter expert, managing critical projects that have significant impacts on Operational, Financial, and Regulatory objectives. The position coordinates cross-functional teams and works transversally across business units to ensure strategic alignment and project success.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Project Lifecycle Management: Oversee all phases of large-scale water/wastewater projects, from conceptual design and funding approvals through execution and project closeout.
  • Execution Strategy: Drive efficiency in project delivery by monitoring key performance metrics and utilizing alternate procurement and delivery methods.
  • Financial Stewardship: Manage complex project budgets, perform ongoing risk/opportunity assessments, and ensure financial accountability.
  • Stakeholder & Change Management: Work transversally with corporate and local business units; act as a bridge between technical teams and leadership to ensure asset owner satisfaction.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all project designs adhere to corporate Technical, Environmental, and Health & Safety/Security standards.
  • Permitting & Regulatory: Coordinate with local staff to manage environmental and governmental permitting processes.
  • Reporting: Provide monthly status reports to management regarding project performance, risks, and milestone achievements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in the development of engineering design and delivery processes, and provide technical expertise for facility condition assessments.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to travel approximately 30-40% to business units as required.
  • Work is conducted in both office and field/facility environments.
Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in managing large/complex water/wastewater design and construction projects (treatment plants, pumping stations, transmission/distribution).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough working knowledge of water/wastewater process applications and environmental regulatory frameworks.
  • Project Management: Expert capability in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing complex projects.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated 'leadership by example' and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong financial analysis skills, including budget management and basic accounting.
  • Systems Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Project, MS Office, and experience with performance monitoring tools (e.g., Oracle).
  • Communication: Superior presentation and reporting skills; ability to communicate complex information to diverse stakeholder groups.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • PMP and/or Construction Management certifications; Professional Engineer License (PE) is highly desired.
Additional Information

Pay Range:$125000 to $135000 per year.
