Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. seeks a Water/Wastewater Engineer 2 to work from our Homestead, Cranberry, or Southpointe offices in Pennsylvania. The role involves contributing to water and wastewater system design, civil engineering tasks, and field support for municipal and industrial clients.

Expect collaboration within a team in a fast-paced environment. Requirements include a bachelor’s or master’s in Engineering, PE licensure, strong communication, and proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM; GIS

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering; M.S. a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to write effectively.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently on project tasks.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM; GIS knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in water/wastewater process and pipeline design for industrial and municipal clients.
  • Assist in civil engineering design for water, wastewater, and stormwater components of projects.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and technical plans; contribute to studies and permits.
  • Field work including water sampling, site inspection, and field observation reports.
  • Prepare plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Job description

GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking an Water/Wastewater Engineer 2 to work out of our Homestead, Cranberry, or Southpointe, PA office. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's global environment.

Job Duties:
  • Assist in water/wastewater process and pipeline design projects for industrial and municipal clients (power plants, steel manufacturing and data center/mission critical facilities, etc.).
  • Assist in Civil Engineering design and calculations for water, wastewater, and stormwater components of new development, modification or remediation projects.
  • Participates in technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications, and technical plans.
  • Filling out and completing permit applications for processing.
  • Field work may include water sampling, site inspection, and construction administration support including completing field observation reports.
  • Prepare plans utilizing AutoDesk Civil 3D.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work indoors in professional office settings.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment.
  • Visual acuity to read printed materials, digital screens, detailed documents, and perform detailed work.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment. Ability to move between workstations and attend in-person meetings.
  • Ability to lift and carry office materials or equipment weighing up to 10-20 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Adequate hearing to participate in conversations, phone calls, and virtual meetings.
  • Ability to travel for meetings, training, or business purposes.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors (B.S.) degree from an accredited college in Environmental or Civil Engineering (M.S. degree a plus)
  • PE Certification
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work independently as needed on project-specific tasks.
  • Dedicated commitment to performing quality work with a positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and BIM desired.
  • Knowledge of GIS software is a plus, including using Arc GIS software and using the software in modeling water and waste/water networks.

  • Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Leads tasks and projects of moderately complex scopes.
  • Develops plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics, and probability and statistics to analyze risk in a complex engineering problem.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Designs a complete project, system, component, or process.
  • Prepares complete plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Designs and conducts analyses and interprets test data.
  • Begins to develop and reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
Project and Task Management
  • Assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff.
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects.
Management Responsibility
  • Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Mentors junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
Communication Skills
  • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
