Job summary

City of Aurora Water seeks a dedicated Water Utility Worker-Pumping to support operation, maintenance, and repair of pump and lift stations and related water distribution systems. You will work in raw, potable, reuse, and irrigation networks, contributing to reliability and public health.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of manual labor experience, plus a valid driver license and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assist with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair activities at pump/lift stations, including pump rebuilds, motor removal/installation, check valve rebuilds and related infrastructure including tanks, forebays and wet wells.
• Respond to pump station and lift station emergencies.
• Participate in mandatory Standby Duty with a 45 minute response time.
• Perform snow removal activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Salary to be commensurate with experience

The hiring range for this position is $22.29 - $27.86 per hour.

Overview Of Department / Position

Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health.

The Water Utility Worker-Pumping performs manual labor duties in the operation, maintenance and repair of pump/lift stations and tanks/fore bays operating in the raw, potable, reuse and irrigation water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems and wet wells.

Minimum Qualifications & Working Conditions

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel

This position is considered essential so when a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands

• Medium lifting not more than 50 pounds at a time and infrequent heavy lifting of not more than 100 pounds
• Frequent lifting, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, standing, stooping/crouching and climbing ladders
• Continuous hand/eye coordination for operation of power tools, vehicles and equipment
• Speech to maintain communication with employees and contractors/vendors
• Vision to read manuals, gauges and test equipment
• Hearing for instruction, troubleshooting and warning signals

Work Environment

• Works both indoors/outdoors in all-weather conditions, with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, insects and wildlife
• Occasional work in confined spaces
• Works in close proximity of low, medium and high voltage equipment
• Works in close proximity of raw sewage
• Works in close proximity of overhead cranes

Equipment Used

• Operates a variety of hand & power tools and equipment common to maintenance and repair activities
• Uses computer and electronic devices for email and data input
• Operates a motor vehicle, tandem axle dump truck, 1ton box tool truck
• This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tablet, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment

The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
