Job summary

The City of Lakeland is seeking a Water Utilities Pipefitter II to install, repair, and maintain water distribution systems. This role may also be filled at Pipefitter I level depending on qualifications and needs, with duties including reading blueprints, laying mains, and performing skilled pipefitting tasks under supervision.

Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment when required, coordinating with the foreman, and adhering to safety and licensing requirements such as a Class C

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of pipe fitting experience with one year in water systems for Pipefitter II.
  • Must possess and maintain a Class “C” Water Distribution License.

Responsibilities

  • Lay water mains, install hydrants, valves, fittings, clamps, and sleeves; perform repairs and flush lines.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, and boring/jacking equipment when required.
  • Read water main blueprints and measure pipe lengths for proper fittings.
  • Perform maintenance on materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform pipe cutting, threading, caulking joints, and other related tasks.
  • Assist foreman or acting foreman during night shifts and emergencies.
  • Follow safety requirements and participate in training as needed.
