Responsibilities

• Drive truck to destination and follow applicable regulations.
• Prepare receipts for load picked up and collect payments.
• Maintain truck logs in accordance with state and federal rules.
• Maintain contact with supervisor for delivery instructions.
• Load and unload the cargo as needed.
• Inspect truck equipment and report issues.
• Perform basic roadside repairs and secure cargo for transit.
• Ensure cargo is properly secured and balanced during transport.

General Summary

Drives truck with capacity of more than 3 tons, to transport materials to and from specified destinations.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Drives truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and area roads.
• Prepares receipts for load picked up.
• Collects payment for goods delivered and for delivery charges.
• May maintain truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
• May maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
• May load and unload truck.
• May inspect truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
• May perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and spark plugs.
• May position blocks and tie rope around items to secure cargo during transit.

Education

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience

Work Experience

1 to 3 yrs. experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Read and interpret road maps
• Practice good safety habits
• Work in dusty or dirty surroundings
• Follow instructions and meet set standards for hauling and scheduling
• Judge distances and weights accurately
• Make decisions based on verifiable standards.

Physically

• Stoop, bend, and crouch
• Use hands, arms, and legs fully
• See well (either naturally or with correction)
• Lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
