Under supervision, the purpose of the position is to train in a variety of tasks necessary for the efficient production and distribution of water for sufficient quantity and quality to meet customer demand. Employees in this classification will train in technical work in the operation and maintenance of the County water systems. Position is responsible for reading water meters; making water cut-offs; and maintaining logs and records as required. Performs related work as required.
Training in the inspection and monitoring of water system equipment and machinery for proper operation and to ensure preparation of potable drinking water for distribution; assists in monitoring the performance of mechanical devices and instrumentation in the treatment plant.
Training in monitoring and regulating tank levels, flows and pressures within the water distribution system and throughout the plant.
Training to repair meters, water lines; locates mains and service lines, and digs ditches;
Reads water meters to determine monthly usage by customer; reports usage for monthly billing; cuts-off meters for non-payment of bill.
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Performs related duties as required.
Pre-employment and random drug testing required. Possession of a grade “C” State Operator Certification issued by the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources within 2 years. Must have a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.
