Job summary

Volarify is seeking an Intermediate Water Damage Specialist to head the water damage team handling residential and small commercial losses in Livonia, MI. You will apply IICRC standards, manage moisture data, operate extraction equipment, and guide techs on complex projects.

The role requires supervising crews, maintaining equipment, and delivering precise documentation while meeting safety and client requirements. Travel and night/weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the IICRC S500 Water Damage Standard.
  • Working knowledge of the IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard.
  • Current IICRC WRT designation.
  • Familiarity with moisture meters and infrared cameras.
  • Ability to draw a sketch, read a floor plan, moisture logs, and psychrometric logs.
  • Understanding of air mover calculations and LGR dehumidification charts.
  • Proficiency with HydroSensor, Thermal Hygrometer, NavPro Moisture Meter or equivalent.
  • Experience with truck-mounted extraction systems and maintenance.
  • Experience supervising small crews up to 10 people.
  • Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per policy.
  • Strong sense of urgency and professional demeanor.
  • English language literacy and fluency.

Job description

Water Tech - Intermediate

Location: Livonia, MI

Position Overview

The development of the Water Damage Specialist at the intermediate level has four (4) objectives: 1) to act as head of the water damage team that deals with residential losses and small commercial losses; 2) knowledge and technical competence in IICRC's standard work practices on water and mold damage; 3) competence in the use, care and maintenance of water extraction equipment, portable drying equipment and moisture detection instruments; and 4) ability to determine the extent, dimension and distribution of moisture, and to document water losses.

Intermediates provide assistance in the development of basic-level technicians and assist advanced technicians in complex or large-scale projects. Intermediates in CAT service can simultaneously manage multiple water losses, including the organization and management of temporary workers.

To qualify for this position, you must have 12 months of previous experience at the Basic Level of Water Damage with a restoration company or equivalent industry experience, as well as having directly participated in at least 25 water damage projects. This position represents Level 3 in the progressive Water Damage career path.

Responsibilities
  • Must be able to receive and follow instructions provided by the Supervisor.
  • Direct teams in the proper use of PPE for the job.
  • Review daily project requirements, document progress, and notify managers of progress and challenges encountered.
  • Provide appropriate field documentation, photographic records, charts, and sketches for various TPA projects.
  • Perform daily inspections of vehicle safety and maintenance and keep vehicles clean and in proper working condition.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Comply with Our Client's standards and procedures to safeguard customers' property.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Ability to work within time constraints to meet specific deadlines.
  • Travel periodically and work nights and weekends as required.
  • Report time worked and equipment and consumables used in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attend operations sponsored by Our Client and required safety training courses.
Requirements
  • Supervise and self-perform Water Damage Basic tasks.
  • Gather photographs and upload them to job files.
  • Maintain equipment used in daily tasks related to debris removal, containment/drying chambers, wall cavity drying, pump systems, carpet seam cutting, cushion removal, and baseboard removal.
  • Properly identify Class 4 materials, perform moisture measurements, and deploy the most effective technique to dry/restore affected materials.
  • Evaluate the integrity of affected structural materials and contents for direct and indirect water damage; accurately assess the cost of restoration versus replacement.
  • Create moisture maps using appropriate tools and knowledge.
  • Supervise small crews performing the above tasks.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications

  • Demonstrated familiarity with industry-standard water damage procedures and documentation.
  • Demonstrated proper use of appropriate moisture meters and infrared cameras, with an understanding of affected versus unaffected building materials and contents.
  • Ability to draw a sketch, read a floor plan, complete a Moisture Content Log, complete a Psychrometric Log, and determine drying goals.
  • Understanding of air mover calculations, LGR dehumidification charts, electrical power specifications, and electrical circuits.
  • Proficiency in the use of HydroSensor, Thermal Hygrometer, NavPro Moisture Meter, or equivalent equipment, including accurate recording of data.
  • Experience with truck-mounted extraction systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising small crews of up to 10 people on residential, commercial, and industrial losses.
  • Eligible to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with Our Client's vehicle policy.
  • Possess a sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
  • English language literacy and fluency.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Occasional assisted lifting of 41 lbs. or more, up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to access and move through tight spaces.
  • Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to use mobile devices for collection of data and time.
