Job summary

HDR is seeking a Water Supply Business Class Leader in Phoenix, AZ. You will guide water resources planning, coordinate with staff and leadership, and manage complex multidisciplinary projects. A strong background in water supply planning, leadership, and client engagement is essential.

You will mentor mid and senior staff, drive business development in the Southwest, and ensure successful execution of BC projects in a dynamic, employee‑owned environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field; PE license preferred
  • 10+ years of related experience in water resources and water supply planning
  • Professional engineering registration and related technical experience
  • Experience in development and management of diverse teams
  • Proven business development in the Southwest with measurable goals
  • Experience with planning project software/tools
  • Ability to lead in a diverse multidisciplinary environment and liaise with all staff levels

Responsibilities

  • Support AZ/NM Water Resources Management Market Sector initiatives, projects, marketing, clients, growth and coordination with staff and leadership
  • Lead and assist Section Managers on BC operations with staffing needs and hiring coordination
  • Manage complex WS programs including scope, schedule, budget, risk and agency coordination
  • Collaborate with Arizona leadership to address delivery issues and obtain approvals for BC operations
  • Participate in national workload calls and coordinate with national WS team and BC Director
  • Lead pursuits of WS related projects and review scopes/fees
  • Mentor and support mid and senior staff and ensure timely BC work planning
  • Provide strategic and technical oversight of surface and groundwater modeling and water supply planning

In the role of Water Supply Business Class Leader, we’ll count on you to:

  • Support Arizona / New Mexico Water Resources Management Market Sector initiatives, projects, marketing, clients, growth, BC coordination, and maintain open communication with staff and the leadership team
  • Assist and lead Section Managers on tasks related to BC operations with a focus on local and national workload support, staffing needs, and coordination of hiring efforts
  • Manage complex multidisciplinary WS programs and projects including scope, schedule, budget, risk and coordination with multiple agencies and stakeholders
  • Work with Arizona’s leadership team to address issues related to delivery, to support and lead communications, and to obtain approvals for BC operations
  • Attend and participate in national workload calls. Coordinate with the national WS team and BC Director, as needed
  • Assist and/or lead pursuits of a variety of WS related projects
  • Prepare and/or review scopes and fees related to WS BC projects
  • Lead, mentor, and support mid and senior level staff
  • Commitment to actively manage the BC, staff, and provide timely support
  • Proactively plan, organize, track, and evaluate BC work and support needs
  • Provide strategic and technical oversight of surface and groundwater modeling, water supply planning, agency coordination, and overall project implementation
  • Perform technical engineering assignments that may require critical thinking and creativity to address unique elements that have limited or no specific code-based guidance
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydraulics, Water Resources, or a related field from an accredited four year college or university
  • Minimum of ten years of related work experience, including experience in Water Supply Planning projects
  • Maintains a Professional Engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Proven business development in the Southwest, with an understanding of measurable goals
  • Experience with software used on planning projects.
  • Ability to function as a leader and an active team player in a diverse multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience with liaising with and coordinating staff at all levels
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Organized and mission driven
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • Experience with Arizona water resources and Colorado River policy
  • Ability to work effectively in complex political and institutional environments and build trusted relationships with senior agency and stakeholder leadership
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
