Job summary

City of Manassas is accepting applications for a Water & Sewer Utility Worker. This hands-on role supports construction and maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure to keep City services running smoothly.

• Detects and fixes leaks, inspects and flushes sewer lines, ensures City standards.
• Assists with distribution testing and sampling for operational needs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

We are accepting applications for our Water & Sewer Utility Worker! Join a team dedicated to keeping the City of Manassas running smoothly! In this hands-on role, you’ll help with functions associated with construction and maintenance of City utilities to maintain, repair, and build essential water and sewer infrastructure.

The pay rate for this position is: $22.03/hour

This position is open until filled and may close at any time.

• Works as part of a crew to assist with water and sewer system maintenance
• Installs, repairs, and maintains water and sewer lines, manholes, and fire hydrants.
• Locates water and sewer lines for utility requests (Miss Utility system).
• Detects and fixes leaks, inspects and flush sewer lines, and ensures compliance with City standards.
• Assists with distribution testing and sampling for operational needs.
• Participates in inspection of new construction to ensure that it is correct and meets City of Manassas standards.
• Participates in the inspection and flushing of Sanitary Sewer lines.
• Performs manual and semi-skilled work functions associated with the installation, maintenance, and/or repair of water and sewer lines
• Cleans and repairs catch basins, drainage ditches, and pipes, clearing debris from grates, and unclogging pipes
• Assists with laying pipe.
• Performs asphalt, concrete, and landscaping repairs as needed.
• Clears snow from City sidewalks, buildings, and medians using shovels, snow blowers, and other tools.
• Responds to emergencies, especially during severe weather.
• Operates a variety of commercial grade power equipment, machinery and hand tools.
• Uses a variety of tools and equipment like mowers, chainsaws, snow blowers, cement mixers, and jackhammers.
• Occasionally operates larger vehicles like dump trucks, snow plows, and tractors.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED is required

Preference may be given to individuals with previous experience in construction and maintenance of public infrastructure.

Must possess and maintain a valid class B commercial Virginia driver's license with air brakes endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Attends training courses as required (e.g. CPR, AED, first aid, defensive driving, trench and shoring safety, traffic control, etc.).

A post-offer, pre-employment criminal background check, driving record check, education/employer verification, along with a physical and drug screen will be conducted.
