Job Summary

We are a COVID-19 proactive organization that follows applicable health and safety regulations to help protect our members and staff. The Water Safety Instructor is responsible for attentively and safely providing swimming instruction, facilitating swimming activities to fulfill program goals, and building relationships among members and staff.

Job Requirements

Frontline employees are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19; however, BCNY strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and obtain a booster shot.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate Red Cross ‘Learn to Swim’ programs for members ages 6-21
• Develop cooperative, age-appropriate swimming pool activities as directed by the Aquatics Director
• Ensure activity plans are implemented as scheduled and participants improve
• Respond appropriately to participant situations in swimming pool areas, taking initiative and providing problem solving
• Complete all necessary reports daily
• Attend required department meetings and professional development trainings
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience as a pool lifeguard, instructor, or comparable role
• Leadership experience in educational, social service, or youth development settings
• Familiarity with principles of supervision, organization, and maintenance
• Current Water Safety Certification from the American Red Cross
• Previous experience working with children
• First Aid and CPR Certification
