This opportunity entails providing guidance and direction in an area of expertise and functional discipline. The position supports the technical aspects of project development and delivery, including proposal development, scope implementation, and change management. It requires applying advanced engineering methods, techniques, and analyses to provide solutions, make recommendations, and resolve issues. Ensuring industry and HNTB standards of design are applied consistently and effectively across projects of varying discipline, size, and complexity, the engineer will collaborate with internal project team members and external client counterparts as an advisor on complex projects to provide technical designs, plans, and specifications.
What You’ll Do
- Perform independent technical reviews, make recommendations, and provide technical guidance on complex or unusual engineering projects.
- Provide direction to resolve technical issues as requested.
- Provide technical expertise and advice to project leadership, and mentor/support production staff.
- Assist in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.
- Coordinate technical aspects with client counterpart and teaming partners at local leadership level across disciplines on complex or unusual engineering projects.
- Develop and advise on technical consistency within and across disciplines on processes and projects.
- Ensure consistent standards and practices are applied.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 11 years of relevant experience.
- PhD in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience.
What You’ll Bring
- Serve as the lead technical engineer for large projects of a complex or unusual nature and be recognized as an expert in the technical field.
- Identify and communicate industry best practices, trends, and risks through presentations, articles, and white papers.
- Use senior-level technical expertise to consider a broad range of engineering solutions.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, being sought out for expertise in their given field, and serve as a differentiator for the firm against competition.
- Represent the firm on industry advisory committees.
Primary Focus Will Include
- H&H work on Water Resources projects including transportation, drainage projects, and floodplain master planning.
- Assist civil works department by performing engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design, and delivery on assigned project(s).
- Assist Project Managers with management of design review process.
- Preparation of construction documents, including reports, plans, and specifications.
- Mentorship and training of younger staff.
What We Prefer
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- 20 years relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Project experience with Louisiana clients including CPRA, USACE, and regional levee boards.
- Coastal Engineering knowledge.
