Job summary

WWC Engineering in Sheridan, WY is seeking a Water Resources Scientist to support groundwater and surface-water projects, with a strong emphasis on data analysis and management. or M.S. in geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, civil or environmental engineering, or related field is required, with 2–5 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Education: B.S. or M.S. in geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, civil or environmental engineering, water resources, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Experience: two to five years working with environmental, scientific, engineering, monitoring, or other technical data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, organize, maintain, and quality-check groundwater and surface-water data, including water levels, flow, and field and laboratory water-quality results.
  • Use spreadsheets and databases to enter, import, export, clean, join, and manage data from multiple sources.
  • Review data for completeness, consistency, and potential errors; investigate unusual results and resolve data issues with the project team.
  • Prepare calculations, tables, charts, dashboards, maps, or other practical tools to effectively communicate data and findings.
  • Apply database, programming, scripting, macros, Power Query, or other automation tools as appropriate to improve repetitive or inefficient processes.
  • Assist experienced technical staff with groundwater and surface-water evaluations and field data collection.
  • Prepare clear documentation of data sources, methods, quality-control activities, and key findings.
  • Manage multiple assignments and changing priorities while meeting expectations for accuracy, responsiveness, schedule, and budget.
  • Participate in quality-control reviews and incorporate feedback into completed work.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.

Position Summary

WWC Engineering is seeking a Water Resources Scientist to join our growing team in Sheridan, WY. Your day-to-day tasks will involve supporting groundwater and surface water projects, with a strong emphasis on data analysis and management. This position is suited for someone who can succeed in a demanding, fast-paced environment, manage changing priorities, learn quickly, and take initiative. Working with project managers and multidisciplinary teams, this professional will complete assigned work accurately and efficiently while taking initiative to improve data organization, streamline processes, and solve problems.

Education: B.S. or M.S. in geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, civil or environmental engineering, water resources, environmental science, or a related field.


Experience: two to five years working with environmental, scientific, engineering, monitoring, or other technical data.



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and Word.

  • Professional licensure is not required. Interest in pursuing applicable professional credentials, such as Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer licensure, is desirable.

  • Experience with CAD or GIS is beneficial but not required.

  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to mining and water resources is desirable but not required.



Physical & Work Environment


  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • The employee may be required to wear a respirator, which requires annual medical surveillance and fit testing.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment can be low to moderate.



This position will involve some travel (using WWC vehicles) and thus this offer is made on the condition that you have a valid driver's license and that you are able to be covered by WWC's vehicle insurance. This offer is also contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug & alcohol test. Please note that this is an offer of at-will employment and does not constitute an employment contract between us.
