Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking an experienced Civil Project Manager in Florida to lead multidisciplinary engineering efforts for public agencies and private clients worldwide. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality projects on time and within budget, with strong emphasis on risk management and team leadership.

The candidate will mentor staff, coordinate subconsultants, and contribute to marketing efforts including proposals and interviews, while maintaining rigorous communication

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in civil engineering projects.
  • Proficient with MS Office and engineering software listed above.
  • Experience collaborating with counties, cities and private clients.

Responsibilities

  • Manages projects within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Leads multi-disciplinary teams and coordinates subconsultants.
  • Develops project plans and quality management plans.
  • Creates and maintains detailed project schedules.
  • Monitors progress, mitigates risk, and handles extra work requests.
  • Communicates status to stakeholders and reviews invoices.
  • Supports marketing efforts with proposals and interviews.
  • Provides coaching and performance feedback to team members.
  • Builds client relationships to understand requirements and ensure quality outcomes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Manages project(s) in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Collaborates with disciplines and subconsultants to develop a risk adverse project scope and fee
  • Develop project specific project plans, Project Management Plans/quality management plan
  • Create and maintain project schedules
  • Manage subconsultants
  • Monitor and execute project progress, including identifying and mitigating risks, developing extra work order requests and open‑end contract task proposals
  • Communicate project status, updates, and issues to internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in office’s project financial status meetings
  • Build relationships with client(s) to understand preferences and requirements to set‑up and execute a quality project
  • Prepare progress reports and review invoices
  • Develop and lead in project status and presentations
  • Assist Section Heads, Office Leaders, and Practice Leaders with the marketing process including, SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, and interviews
  • Coordinate and guide all technical resources within the project team to ensure delivery of a high‑quality outcome
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to the project team through one‑on‑one check‑in meetings and various project debriefs to acknowledge achievements, identify areas for improvement, and share lessons learned
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of the team

Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited program
  • Professional Engineering license
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Proficient in Bentley ORD and Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Proficient in ICPR, SWMM, and HED-RAS modeling software
  • Proficient in ArcGIS
  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Strong Presentation Skills
Qualifications Preferred
  • ENV SP Certification
  • CAPM or PMP
  • Experience with multiple project delivery methods i.e. Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3
  • Experience managing multidiscipline project teams
  • Experience with stream restoration projects
  • Experience with water quality projects
Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
