Job summary

The City of Bloomington is seeking a Water Resources Intern for summer 2027 to assist with ecological assessments and stormwater inspections. The role offers exposure to municipal surface water management and a variety of field tasks.

Applicants should be pursuing an Engineering or Natural Resources degree, have a valid driver’s license, and be prepared for field work, lifting, and some overtime. The internship provides hands-on experience in mapping, planning, and water quality activities.

Qualifications

• Completion of one academic year of a four-year Engineering program (including civil or environmental) or one academic year of a Natural Resources Degree (biology, ecology, environmental science).
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds (lifting maintenance hole lids, moving boats and equipment).
• Comfortable around traffic and water; able to work independently and with others.

Responsibilities

• Perform pond ecosystem assessments and water quality sampling.
• Inspect stormwater infrastructure and BMPs (e.g., rain gardens).
• Conduct erosion control inspections at active sites.
• Assist municipal mosquito control treatments.
• Prepare plans and maps with CAD and GIS.
