Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) in the United States is seeking a civil engineering intern to assist with design tasks, prepare drawings, and support project development across water resources and transportation projects.

The position offers an hourly wage of $22.00–$27.00, dependent on education level. Immigration sponsorship is limited to TN visa candidates; ABET-accredited students are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Full-time student currently pursuing an ABET accredited undergraduate degree in civil engineering with an interest in water resources and transportation projects
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong written materials
• Detail-oriented with the ability to collaborate in a team

Responsibilities

• Assist senior leads and design team with basic tasks, research, and layout support
• Help prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, and construction phases
• Provide input on solutions using engineering fundamentals
• Support site visits, RFI responses, shop drawings, and updating record drawings
• Follow quality control procedures and ask questions when needed
• Learn and apply department standards and best practices
• Develop basic design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience
• Participate in meetings and collaborate with team members

Position summary:

An intern supports the assigned design department by assisting with a variety of tasks, including special project assignments and active participation in project design and documentation, to gain practical experience and support their educational development.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

The hourly rate associated with this position is $22.00 - $27.00, which is based on education level.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assist senior leads and other design team members (project managers and engineers) with basic design tasks, including research, simple studies, and layout support
• Help prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, graphics, design development, and construction phases
• Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals
• Assist with construction phase activities, including participating in site visits, supporting RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and helping update record drawings
• Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed
• Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices
• Develop basic design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members
• Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders
• Collaborate with water resources engineers and other multidisciplinary team members

Required Experience

• Full-time student currently pursuing an ABET accredited undergraduate degree in civil engineering with an interest in water resources and transportation projects

Qualifications Preferred

• Coursework in a related field
• Previous internship or relevant work experience
• Familiarity with design and production software, with the ability to use these tools to develop project documents and collaborate with project team members

Working Conditions

Work is generally performed within an office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed.
