Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Water Resources EIT to contribute to smaller projects under supervision of senior engineers. You will assist in hydraulics, surveying, geotechnical planning, and stormwater design while coordinating tasks and preparing drawings and reports.

You should have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, and an EIT designation or be eligible to take the exam soon. 0–2 years of experience and a willingness to perform fieldwork are preferred.

  • 0–2 years of experience; co-op/internship preferred.
  • Experience with surface water resources, hydrogeology, or related assets is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use knowledge of civil engineering elements including hydraulics, surveying, and geotechnical considerations.
  • Assist in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling and geospatial data handling.
  • Prepare civil designs, drawings, specifications, and reports under supervision.
  • Conduct basic calculations and field work as needed.
  • Support construction activities including submittals and RFIs.
  • Collaborate with the civil team and project members.

Job description

Your Opportunity

The role of a Water Resources EIT is to work on smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the close guidance and supervision of a senior engineer/designer. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, field work, coordination of simple tasks, and meeting attendance and recording. The smaller projects that an entry level civil engineer may be assigned to will have relatively few complex features. In general, a Water Resources EIT will assist more senior engineers/designers by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Use knowledge of general concepts of relevant civil engineering elements including system hydraulics, surveying and topographic mapping, geotechnical considerations, grading, utility investigations and analyses.
  • Assist in creation of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and accompanying geospatial data.
  • Assist team in preparing civil designs, drawings, specifications, presentations and reports.
  • Conduct basic calculations and performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned and under the supervision of a project engineer.
  • May perform field work related to pilot and/or construction related activities.
  • Assists in supporting the civil team in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design including gravity and pressure systems, geotechnical, survey, storm water/drainage design, road design, erosion and sediment control, and grading.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar material.
  • Basic experience in Microsoft Office, as well as relevant discipline software programs, which may include AutoCAD Civil3D, GIS, HECRAS, MicroStation/OpenRoads, PCSWMM, XPSWMM, HydroCAD, (or other modeling software).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • EIT designation or the ability to take the EIT exam in the near future.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years of experience. Previous Co-op/Internship experience preferred.
  • Education or experience with surface water resources, natural resources, soil science, or hydrogeology would be considered as assets.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas-$69,800.00 - $97,700.00 Annually
Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
