MacKay & Somps Civil Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Water Resources Engineer in Pleasanton, CA, with 3–7 years of hands-on experience in storm drainage, surface hydrology, and hydraulics. You will contribute to land development and public infrastructure projects while growing technical expertise toward a senior role.

Candidates must have a B.S. in Civil Engineering (ABET) and be a licensed PE in California, with the right to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of civil engineering experience focusing on storm drainage and hydrology/hydraulics in California.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word and Excel.
• Experience with Army Corps HEC models (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS), SWMM, XPStorm, Innovyze, and/or WaterCAD.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to learn, collaborate, and take on increasing responsibility.
• Experience in land development drainage design and public infrastructure is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design storm drain systems, open-channel/closed-conduit hydraulics, and surface hydrology solutions.
• Assist with master drainage plans, flood studies, and stormwater management designs.
• Perform rainfall–runoff simulations and 1‑D/2‑D hydraulic modeling.
• Support drainage and flood control design for both private developments and public infrastructure projects.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and public agencies to ensure accurate, efficient project delivery.
• Project management and design of Land Development and Public Infrastructure projects.
