Job description

STV's Water Resources practice supports clients in addressing some of today's most challenging water-related issues, including stormwater management, flooding, drainage, watershed planning, flood protection, and infrastructure resilience.

We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our growing team and support a diverse portfolio of stormwater, hydrologic and hydraulic, floodplain management, and water resources projects. The successful candidate will have a strong technical foundation in water resources engineering and demonstrated experience with stormwater management and floodplain mapping/modeling.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex water resources challenges, working with multidisciplinary teams, and developing practical solutions for public-sector and infrastructure clients.

What You’ll Do

As a Water Resources Engineer, you will contribute to the planning, analysis, design, and delivery of water resources projects. Responsibilities may include:

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for watersheds, drainage systems, streams, rivers, and floodplains.
  • Develop, modify, calibrate, and review hydrologic and hydraulic models.
  • Perform floodplain studies and mapping analyses in support of State and local floodplain management programs.
  • Support preparation of C/LOMR studies, floodplain mapping updates, and related flood-risk analyses.
  • Perform stormwater management and drainage studies for municipal, site development, and infrastructure projects.
  • Evaluate existing drainage and flood-control systems and develop recommendations for improvements.
  • Design and evaluate stormwater management facilities, drainage systems, culverts, channels, detention/retention facilities, and related infrastructure.
  • Perform watershed delineation, drainage-area analysis, and spatial analysis using GIS.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, maps, and other project documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of plans, specifications, technical requirements, and construction documents.
  • Support permitting and coordination with municipal, state, and federal agencies.
  • Participate in field investigations, site assessments, and data collection.
  • Coordinate with civil, transportation, environmental, structural, geotechnical, GIS, and other technical disciplines.
  • Assist project managers with project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Participate in client meetings and communicate technical findings and recommendations.
  • Support proposal development, technical presentations, and other business development activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and staff.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience in water resources engineering, stormwater management, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, floodplain management, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain licensure is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, SWMM, HydroCAD, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience with stormwater management, drainage analysis, watershed studies, or flood mitigation.
  • Experience with flood mitigation and resilience planning.
  • Experience with floodplain mapping and FEMA flood studies is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with 1D and/or 2D hydraulic modeling is desirable.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS or other GIS software.
  • Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, open-channel flow, drainage systems, and floodplain principles.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project schedules and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • P.E. license.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification.
  • Experience with FEMA Risk MAP programs and floodplain studies.
  • Experience preparing or supporting LOMRs, CLOMRs, or other FEMA map revisions.
  • Experience with municipal stormwater master planning.
  • Experience with green infrastructure, low-impact development, or nature-based stormwater solutions.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local stormwater and floodplain regulations.
