Job summary

Stantec seeks a Water Resources Engineer/Project Manager in Minnesota to support client management, lead project management, and provide technical support across water resources projects. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or can be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Expected to become licensed in MN and ND, at minimum.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience.
  • Prior consulting experience highly preferred.
  • Preferably 2 years of project management experience coordinating and managing tasks and interacting with clients and regulatory agency contacts.

Your Opportunity

The role of the Water Resources Engineer / Project Manager is to support client management, project management, and provide technical support within our water resources group. In this role, the candidate will work independently on smaller projects or as a team member on larger projects. Previous consulting or water resource engineering related experience is highly preferable. Our projects range from planning and permitting to design, engineering and construction. The ideal candidate will be self‑motivated, embrace teamwork, and have the desire to grow and develop professionally. Project management experience is required.

Your Key Responsibilities

Project management responsibilities will include developing proposals; managing project budgets and schedules; coordinating with clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project technical work.

  • Participate in, and support, a wide variety of water related projects, including planning and conceptual design, and detailed design and implementation.
  • Perform or review all aspects of design (grading, drainage, water, hydrology, erosion control, etc.) with an emphasis on technical and project delivery excellence.
  • Lead water resource planning studies for conveyance, flood analysis, water quality and ecological benefits.
  • Complete tasks and delegate specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate. Provide management, guidance, training, and oversight of project staff.
  • Prepare technical reports, concept designs, construction specifications, construction drawings, bidding documents, and permit applications for approval.
  • Lead or participate in the permitting process of projects, which may require meetings with clients, contractors, reviewing agency personnel, and governing entities.

Coordinate and manage multiple projects and interface with clients, government agencies, and other Stantec offices / business units.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Has well‑developed understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of hydraulic and hydrologic analyses and conveyance engineering design, including open channel, bank stabilization and stream restoration, geotechnical, and civil design.
  • Possess excellent time management skills with a thorough understanding of task assignment, schedule, and budgeting.
  • Efficient use of time and resources with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in hydrology modeling and 1D & 2D hydraulic modeling software, such as HydroCAD, SWMM, RAS; knowledge of design software (GIS, CAD) – working experience a plus.
  • Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, on‑site inspections, etc.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental or civil engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or can be obtained within 6 months of employment. Expected to become licensed in MN and ND, at minimum.
  • Minimum of (six) 6 years of experience.
  • Prior consulting experience, highly preferred.
  • Preferably two (2) years of project management experience coordinating and managing tasks and projects and interacting with clients and environmental regulatory agency contacts.

Typical office environment working with computers. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas-$107,100.00 - $160,700.00 Annually
