Job description

Water Resources Director

Location: Orlando, FL or Tampa, FL – immediate opening for a highly experienced Water Resources Director to lead projects and grow the Southeast Environmental Services practice.

Overview

VHB seeks a senior professional with 15+ years of experience in water resource consulting across energy, transportation, real estate, and local government sectors. The role involves designing studies, analyzing data, modeling, preparing reports, and managing environmental permit applications (local, state, federal). The director will also spearhead business development, mentor staff, and drive the practice’s growth throughout the Southeast region.

Responsibilities
  • Lead multi‑disciplinary projects focused on hydrology, hydraulics, or water quality, collaborating with staff and clients.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, performing lead discipline work on proposals and presentations.
  • Develop and oversee design plans, specifications, technical reports, and construction documents for transportation, local government, and land‑development projects.
  • Perform engineering computations for site hydrology and hydraulics, including stormwater management, floodplain compensation, and natural channel design.
  • QC construction plans and design documents produced by the team.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and project schedules; negotiate staff hours and supplemental agreements.
  • Mentor and develop water resources staff, expanding technical capabilities.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in engineering (or related field) with 15+ years of post‑graduate experience.
  • Registered Florida Professional Engineer.
  • Advanced proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software and FDOT design standards.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and permitting processes at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Strong client‑management skills and proven ability to grow a technical practice.
