  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS Pro, H&H modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM, etc.)
  • EI certification on path to PE license preferred
  • Four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field

  • Prepare grading, hydrology data, and construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro for hydrology calculations and figures.
  • Develop erosion control plans and stormwater measures per standards.
  • Complete field work for data collection and as-built certifications.

Position Overview

The Designer II position is a key role responsible for the design and production of construction plan sets. Establishes design criteria, performs necessary engineering calculations for design or complete systems with minimum supervision. Proficiently applies knowledge of design concepts, governmental and municipal regulations, hydrologic and hydraulic methodologies and modeling software, CAD tools, GIS applications, plan preparation, surveying principles, and construction techniques Serves as mentor to others in design development and in preparing the technical portion of project specifications. Success is delivering high quality work with increasing independence and autonomy defined by reduced revisions from technical manager reviews. A pivotal team contributor to the overall project team goal of completing timely designs and submittal packages for project approvals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to plan reviewers in a timely manner and initiate follow-up when necessary.
  • Apply understanding of design regulations, development ordinances, and jurisdictional requirements and be able to research and navigate design requirements for new sites.
  • Produce hydrologic calculations using SCS Curve Number Method, Rational Method, and other relevant methodologies for use in design and analysis of water resources projects.
  • Produce hydraulic calculations for design of storm conveyances with approved software (StormCAD, PCSWMM, etc.) and prepare storm drainage plans to include storm sewer piping, open channel design, culvert design, and inlet flow calculations (spread calcs).
  • Produce hydraulic calculations for design of spillways, detention facilities, and other systems requiring hydrograph routing using approved software (HEC-HMS, PondPack, etc.).
  • Produce flood studies using HEC-RAS meeting standards for FEMA or local jurisdictions submittals.
  • Apply a firm understanding of riverine floodplain and floodway concepts as required.
  • Prepare grading, hydrology data, and construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Prepare engineering calculation reports.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro for producing hydrology calculations as well as production of figures and exhibits.
  • Design and layout erosion control devices and develop erosion control plans per local and State standards.
  • Design and layout stormwater control measures per local and State standards.
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of stormwater design as it impacts site/design components
  • Earth Works - Produce Earthwork calculations and adjust grading
  • Complete field work as necessary for data collection and as-built certifications.
Skills + Experience
  • 2 to 5 years of experience with water resources or civil engineering
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS Pro, H&H modeling software (such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM, etc.)
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • EI certification on path to PE license preferred
