Job summary

Huitt-Zollars is seeking a Water Resources Civil Engineer in its Dallas, TX office. This full-time Staff/EIT role focuses on hydrology, hydraulics, drainage, and utility design under P.E. supervision, with opportunities to grow into more complex responsibilities.

The position requires a BSCE or B.S. in Environmental Engineering, an EIT or ability to obtain, and 2+ years related experience. AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrologic modeling tools are preferred, with strong communication and teamwork

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering or infrastructure design experience preferred.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred, or ability to obtain EIT within a reasonable timeframe after hire.
  • Experience with water, wastewater, stormwater drainage, roadway, utility infrastructure, or site civil engineering projects.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, WaterCAD, SewerGEMS, GIS, XPSWMM, or similar programs is a plus.
  • Experience with preparing grading plans, utility plans, drainage studies, and construction documents is desirable.
  • Construction management or inspection experience is a plus.
  • Strong technical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and teamwork.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work within schedules and budgets.
  • MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Willingness to field visit and work onsite as needed.
  • Desire to grow professionally within a multidisciplinary public works environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and modeling for drainage and floodplain studies.
  • Design open channels, storm drain systems, and culverts under a licensed PE guidance.
  • Prepare construction plans, specs, and supporting docs.
  • Coordinate with senior engineers on design revisions and QA/QC.
  • Assist with meeting minutes, memos, reports, and project correspondence.
  • Support construction management activities including shop drawings and RFIs.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across civil, environmental, transportation, and survey.
  • Assume increasing responsibilities as experience grows.

Water Resources Civil Engineering EIT

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars' Dallas office has a full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineering Staff/EIT in our Dallas office. Project opportunities include roadways, water & wastewater, drainage, parks, sidewalks, shared use paths, bicycle lanes, site planning, grading, traffic safety, utilities, construction document preparation, and construction phase services. Position responsibilities will incrementally increase over time and with experience.

Registration(s): Registered Engineer-In-Training, or working towards an EIT

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering (BSCE)

Duties:

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and modeling to support drainage and floodplain studies
  • Design open channels, storm drain systems, and culverts under the guidance of a licensed PE.
  • Prepare construction plans, specifications, and supporting documentation for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with senior engineers and project managers on design revisions and QA/QC review.
  • Assist with preparation of meeting minutes, technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, presentations, and project correspondence.
  • Support construction management and construction administration activities including review of shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, contractor questions, and field documentation.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, environmental, transportation, survey, and construction management staff.
  • Perform assignments with increasing responsibility and technical complexity as experience and professional development progress.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering or infrastructure design experience preferred. Recent graduates with strong internship, co-op, or related project experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred, or ability to obtain EIT certification within a reasonable timeframe after hire.
  • Experience or interest in water, wastewater, stormwater drainage, roadway, utility infrastructure, or site civil engineering projects.

This position will office out of our Dallas, TX location in a 'Class A' office space including a state-of-the-art gym (no cost), covered parking, food court, and more.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • May be required drive to visit client or project sites for short periods of time
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
