Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. (VHB) is seeking a Water Resources Civil Engineer to join our Virginia team across Richmond, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, with a hybrid work option.

You’ll contribute to a diverse portfolio addressing flooding, water quality, resiliency, and infrastructure modernization. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in civil/environmental/water resources engineering.
• 1+ years of professional experience in water resources or a related field.
• Experience with HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, PCSWMM, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ORD is preferred.
• EIT certification is highly preferred, with interest in pursuing a PE license.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Civil Engineer - Water Resources Richmond, VA | Virginia Beach, VA | Williamsburg, VA | Hybrid

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career engineer to contribute to a diverse portfolio of water resources projects that help communities address flooding, improve water quality, enhance resiliency, and modernize critical infrastructure.

As a member of our multidisciplinary Water Resources team, you will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers on a wide range of projects, including hydrologic and hydraulic studies, watershed and master planning, stormwater management and drainage improvements, flood resilience planning and design, bridge and culvert design, MS4 program support, and green infrastructure and nature-based solutions. Experience with model-based design workflows using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer (ORD) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support water resources and civil infrastructure projects from planning through design and construction.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and modeling using industry-standard software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, PCSWMM, HY-8, ArcGIS, and Bentley applications.
• Assist with stormwater management, drainage, watershed, floodplain, and flood resilience studies and designs.
• Support the design of stormwater systems, culverts, drainage improvements, stream restoration projects, and other water resources infrastructure.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, design plans, construction documents, specifications, and permit applications.
• Support construction administration and implementation of water resources projects.
• Apply AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, GIS, and other digital delivery tools to improve project delivery and collaboration.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to develop practical and innovative solutions.
• Develop knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local permitting and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in a collaborative team environment and contribute to continuous improvement and professional development.

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting and regulatory requirements is a plus.
• Interest in advancing digital delivery and model-based design practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 1+ years of professional experience in water resources, civil engineering, or a related field.
• Experience or coursework related to hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, drainage design, floodplain analysis, or related water resources engineering.
• Experience with HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, PCSWMM, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or OpenRoads Designer is preferred.
• EIT certification is highly preferred, with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work for VHB in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $105,000 if located in Virginia. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
