Job summary

City of Arvada in Colorado seeks a Water Resources Analyst to support essential water supply operations, including raw water diversions, reservoir and dam stability, water rights administration, and emergency preparedness planning.

The role offers field work, collaboration with state and local agencies, and representation of the City in irrigation ditch company matters while protecting Arvada’s water resources.

Qualifications

• Two (2) or more years of experience in Colorado water rights administration and raw water field work.
• Experience working with the State Engineer’s Office.
• Experience working with Colorado ditch companies, including board membership.
• Experience creating Emergency Preparedness Plans.
• Working knowledge of spreadsheet-based programs to track and maintain raw water resource data.

The range listed reflects the entire range and typical placement is entry to mid range. Pay Range: $75,026.96-$102,587.86 Annual

The City of Arvada is seeking a Water Resources Analyst to support essential water supply operations, including raw water diversions, reservoir and dam stability, water rights administration, and emergency preparedness planning. This role offers the opportunity to work in the field, collaborate with state and local agencies, and represent the City in irrigation ditch company matters while helping protect and manage Arvada’s water resources.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintains records of reservoir/dam stability and provides these records to appropriate entities.
• Acts as the point person for reservoir/dam Emergency Preparedness Plans and updates/distributes accordingly.
• Represents the City in irrigation ditch company matters.
• Conducts field operations related to the City’s raw water diversions (collecting diversion data and entering into databases for use).
• Adjusts raw water diversions and raw water pumping operations as required in response to changes made by the State Engineer’s Office to the river call.
• Takes annual measurements and maintain historical records of dam stability readings and submits to the State Engineer’s Office.
• Updates emergency preparedness plans for city facilities as needed and submits to the State Engineer’s Office.
• Represents the city at water supply stakeholder meetings involving state and local agencies.
• Serves on irrigation ditch company boards and participates in ditch company meetings.
• Assists in the preparation and review of documentation relating to water court activities.
• Travels to and attends team and organizational meetings, training, events and activities and appropriately and professionally represents the department.

Other Job Functions

• Assists the Water Resources Administrator with daily raw water operations as needed.
• Completes and submits the required water conservation plan to the state.
• Requires occasional evening and weekend work.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of and experience with Colorado water law and raw water field operations.
• Experience performing special studies related to water resources/water supply.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public while doing field work.
• Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and values, interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

License & Certification

A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.

Education Degree

Bachelors Degree (BA, BS, BBA)

Education Major

Water Resources Engineering or Environmental Sciences or Natural Resources Planning or a field directly related to water resources.

Education Required

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Work Experience Related

• Two (2) or more years of experience in Colorado water rights administration and raw water field work.
• Experience working with the State Engineer’s Office.
• Experience working with Colorado ditch companies, including board membership.
• Experience creating Emergency Preparedness Plans.
• Working knowledge of spreadsheet-based programs to track and maintain raw water resource data.

Other Qualifications

• Must pass a criminal background check and a driving record check, if required by the position.

Physical Demands

• Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions.
• Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.

Hazards

Marginal to moderate exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.

Work Environment

Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
