Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection seeks a Sanitarian Trainee to protect public drinking water and learn essential field and regulatory skills through on-the-job training.

You will perform field inspections, collect samples, provide guidance to operators, and collaborate with the Southwest Regional Office in the Safe Drinking Water program; telework may be available part-time as described in the interview.

Qualifications

• Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field.
• A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Field inspections of public water systems and preparation of clear reports.
• Compliance reviews and notices based on current rules and regulations.
• Emergency response and public notifications for water system incidents.
• Provide technical guidance to system operators and officials on regulatory requirements.
• Data entry of inspection results, violations, and related information.
• Collection and handling of water samples for lab and field analyses.
