City Utilities of Springfield is seeking an intern to assist the Water Quality Laboratory under the Supervisor – Water Quality. Duties include supporting microbial instrumentation, assisting in method development, data entry, QA/QC, and field analyses as needed.

The position requires enrollment as a full-time student, at least one year of college in Chemistry, Biology, or Microbiology, and a drive license. Schedule: 20-25 hours per week during school terms and 40 hours per week in summer, with

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year college with a major in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or related field is required.
• Strong understanding of environmental sciences and basic water quality is preferred.
• Must have completed coursework in General Biology I and II.
• Coursework or work experience related to inland waters is preferred.

Responsabilités

• Provides support for microbial instrumentation such as CAAS, microscopy and autoclave sterilization.
• Assists in research and analytical method development (wet chemistry, immunoassay, instrumental, etc.).
• Assists in authoring, reviewing and revising SOPs.
• Provides backup support for Organic and Inorganic chemists.
• Performs data entry in LIMS and internal reporting software; notifies lab personnel of results.
• Supports RTCR and algal enumeration, cyanotoxin analysis, and lake monitoring.
