Job summary

Granite Construction Incorporated is seeking an entry-level Pump Tech to assist Operators with water pump installation tasks and perform routine mechanical work on water well pumps. You will support site operations, ensure safety, manage materials, and help troubleshoot equipment.

The role requires outdoor work, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and willingness to travel per diem as needed. A high school diploma or GED is required, with CDL a plus and training provided for licenses.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A or B a plus.
• NCCOA license a plus, or ability to obtain one (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Lift and move pipe and pump components up to 50 lbs; assist with heavier items.
• Operate and maintain service trucks, cranes, generators, pumps, and equipment on sites.
• Collaborate with crew and work independently to meet project goals and deadlines.
• Maintain records of time, materials, and required paperwork.
• Assist in installation, troubleshooting, and repair of water pumps to minimize downtime.
• Load/unload trucks, transport equipment between sites, and set up for jobs.
• Collect and label water samples for analysis.
• Perform additional duties to support team objectives.

General Summary

The Pump Tech is an entry level role primarily responsible for assisting Operators with water pump installation tasks and performing routine mechanical work on existing water well pumps.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Ensure adherence to all safety and quality procedures to maintain a safe and efficient work environment
• Lift and move pipe and pump components weighing up to 50 lbs., and assist with lifting components up to 100 lbs. to support operational needs
• Operate and maintain service trucks, cranes, boom trucks, generators, engines, pumps, and other equipment used on water pumping sites to ensure reliable and efficient operation
• Collaborate with the crew and work independently to accomplish tasks to achieve project goals and deadlines
• Maintain accurate records of time, materials, and other required paperwork to ensure proper documentation and accountability
• Assist in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of water pumps to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime
• Load and unload trucks with equipment and materials to facilitate smooth logistics and operations
• Transport equipment between sites and set up for jobs to ensure timely and efficient project execution
• Collect and accurately label water samples for analysis to ensure precise and reliable data collection
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall team objectives and project success

Education

• High school diploma or GED

Work Experience

• Construction site experience or similar outdoor industry experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Able to work in small teams successfully
• Must be mechanically inclined, experience with hydraulic pumps a plus
• Must be dependable and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs occasionally
• Must be able to stand for 10-12-hour shifts
• Must be able to travel and be away from home overnight for up to 1 week at a time occasionally (We pay per diem and travel when out of town overnight)
• Must have clean driving record and a valid driver’s license
• CDL license - Class A or B, is a plus but not required
• NCCOA license a plus, or ability to obtain one (we provide training)
