Inframark O&M Winder, located at 702 Creekside Drive, Winder, GA, is hiring a Water Operator to manage municipal drinking water plant operations. The role includes process control, basic cleaning, maintenance tasks, and groundskeeping to ensure safe, clean water.

Responsibilities include operating pumps and valves, monitoring panels, backwashing, collecting samples for pH/DO/CL2 tests, recording readings, and adjusting processes as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; college degree in biology, chemistry, or environmental science.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Water Operator license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Operates water pumping mechanisms to regulate flow and pressure on assigned shifts.
  • Monitors pumps, valves, turbines, and motors to regulate water distribution.
  • Cleans systems by backwashing at designated intervals.
  • Records reservoir levels, power usage and equipment data.
  • Performs lab tests (pH, DO, CL2) and adjusts processes per results.
  • Maintains and stocks materials on trucks; housekeeping and groundskeeping duties.
  • Calibrates meters, conducts chemical feeding and records data.
  • Operates plant machines and injects chemicals to purify water.
  • Attends safety classes and complies with safety policies.

Water Operator

This position is responsible for the general operations of a municipal drinking water treatment plant. In addition to process control responsibilities, you may be asked to do basic cleaning, painting, scrubbing of weirs and basins, minor maintenance tasks, and grounds maintenance of water plants and well stations.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates water pumping mechanisms to regulate flow and pressure of water during assigned shifts to include:
  • Operates pumps, valves, turbines and electric motors to transfer, distribute and regulate pressure flow of raw and processed water
  • Monitors panel boards and adjusts controls to regulate flow and distribution of water
  • Cleans systems by backwashing at designated intervals
  • Records reservoir water elevation, power consumption and equipment utilization data at designated intervals
  • Conducts water treatment activities to include add appropriate amounts of chemicals to raw water to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water at regular intervals; regulates flow of pre-treated water through sedimentation and filter devices; adds appropriate amounts of chemicals into water for post treatment and operates agitators; records chemical composition of raw and treated water at designated intervals
  • Maintains, cleans and stocks materials on trucks and equipment. Housekeeping duties to include cutting grass, cleaning tanks, sweeping & mopping floors, cleaning equipment and various other duties to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the facility
  • Calibrates all meters that will be used through the course of the shift
  • Collects samples and performs various tests such as pH, D.O., and CL2 residual; analyzes results and makes process control changes based on these lab results and instruction from their immediate supervisor
  • Documents readings, test results, equipment adjustments and enters data into a computer database for record maintenance and to produce periodic and special reports
  • Monitors and observes treatment process for offensive matter; inspects equipment and monitors operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect problems
  • Transfers various chemicals from one container to the other. Makes chemical feed adjustments as necessary
  • Changes chlorine cylinders and checks for leaks. Adjusts feed rate as required. Transports, handles and mixes chemicals manually as required.
  • Operates plant machines and equipment and injects chemicals to purify water
  • Conducts laboratory tests of water and monitors plant controls
  • Adjusts valves and gates and maintains well pump stations
  • Attends safety classes, reinforces and complies with company safety policies

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED; college degree in biology, chemistry, or environmental science
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Valid WaterOperator License preferred or ability to obtain required certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator within 12 months of hire date
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairways safely.
  • Must be able to pass a fit-test for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
