Job summary

Samsung Austin Semiconductor is seeking a Water Operations Manager to direct 24/7 UPW and IWT production, ensuring safety, uptime, and regulatory compliance. You will lead plant staff, coordinate cross-team activities, and monitor real-time water quality to optimize processes with engineering and maintenance.

You must have a chemical/mechanical/environmental engineering degree and 10+ years in water operations, with semiconductor fab experience preferred; SCADA/HMI and P&ID expertise are

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, or environmental engineering.
  • 10+ years in water/wastewater operations or heavy industrial environments; semiconductor fab experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of water treatment processes (RO, CEDI, UF, UV, ion exchange).
  • Familiarity with SCADA, HMI controls, and P&IDs; OSHA/EHS guidelines knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Direct 24/7 shift execution and staff management for UPW and IWT operations.
  • Coordinate OPS/MX/ENG alignment meetings and resolve excursions.
  • Enforce EHS protocols and regulatory permits for chemical handling and discharge.
  • Monitor real-time water quality via SCADA/HMI and respond to alarms.
  • Oversee SOPs, shift training, and performance management.

Position Summary

The Water Operations Manager directs 24/7 ultra-pure water (UPW) and industrial wastewater treatment (IWT) production, managing daily plant output, driving shift performance, and ensuring absolute safety and environmental compliance for semiconductor manufacturing.

This role oversees daily plant activities, coordinates shift handoffs, and monitors real‑time water‑purity metrics while working with engineering to optimize processes and with maintenance to schedule preventive repairs without impacting fab uptime. This position also enforce strict EHS policies, manage chemical‑handling protocols, and ensure continuous compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Water Operations Manager ensures rapid resolution of SCADA/HMI alarms to maintain uptime, enforces accurate SOPs and shift logs, and cultivates a high‑performance, safety‑first culture among operations technicians.

Role and Responsibilities

Here’s What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • 24/7 Shift Execution & Staff Management: Direct daily activities of plant operators and shift technicians, ensuring continuous, high-purity water delivery and zero fab interruptions.
  • Cross-Team Coordination: Lead daily operations, maintenance, and engineering (OPS/MX/ENG) alignment meetings to prioritize work and resolve plant excursions.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce strict environmental health and safety (EHS) protocols and local/state/federal regulatory standards for chemical handling and wastewater discharge.
  • System Monitoring & Quality Control: Track real-time water quality parameters, review performance trends via SCADA/HMI, and manage immediate response to system alarms.
  • SOP & Workforce Development: Oversee standard operating procedures (SOPs), drive operator shift training, and conduct ongoing performance management.
Skills and Qualifications

Here’s what you'll need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in water/wastewater operations or heavy industrial/process environments, with specific semiconductor fab experience strongly preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of water treatment processes (RO, CEDI, UF, UV, ion exchange, and biological/chemical wastewater treatment).
  • Systems Proficiency: Familiarity with SCADA, HMI controls, and reading P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
  • Compliance & Safety: Strong grasp of OSHA, EHS guidelines, and environmental discharge permits.
Total Rewards

At Samsung Austin Semiconductor, base pay is just one part of our total compensation package. The base compensation for this role will depend on education, experience, skills, and location.

The current base salary range for this role is between $147,000 - $200,500. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
