Job summary

MME is seeking a dependable Water Meter Replacement Technician to join our Infrastructure Rehabilitation team in Stone Mountain, GA. The role replaces residential meters, uses AMI/AMR tech, and requires efficiency, accuracy, and professional interaction with customers.

You will record serial numbers, readings, and install meters with handheld tablets and GPS devices, while maintaining safety and data integrity on a high-volume field schedule.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Construction or utility experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of residential plumbing systems, water-service configurations, and backflow prevention preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools, including pipe wrenches, tongue-and-groove pliers, and wiresnips.
• Ability to work with copper, PVC, galvanized steel, and other piping materials.
• Ability to operate GPS-enabled handheld devices, tablets, and work-order management software.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping.
• Professional communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to work independently while meeting daily production expectations.
• Willingness to travel and work overtime when required.
• Dependable work ethic and commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Remove existing residential water meters and install new high-accuracy meters.
• Ensure meters are properly aligned, correctly oriented, and connected without leaks.
• Complete the required number of meter replacements per shift while maintaining safety and quality.
• Record meter serial numbers, final readings from removed meters, and initial readings from new meters.
• Use handheld tablets, GPS-enabled devices, and mobile work-order software to document completed work.
• Perform pressure and leak tests after installation to confirm water service is safely restored.
• Identify and report issues such as leaking valves, corroded pipes, damaged meter boxes, or obstructed access.
• Clean meter boxes, securely replace lids, and leave surrounding property in its original condition.
• Maintain a high level of data-entry accuracy because meter information directly affects customer billing.
• Notify residents professionally before temporarily shutting off water service.
• Answer basic customer questions about the meter-upgrade process.
• Maintain a clean uniform, vehicle, tools, and work area.
• Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

PositionSummary

TheWaterMeterReplacementTechnicianremovesandinstallssmall-diameterresidentialwatermeters,typicallyrangingfrom5/8inchto1inch.Thispositionsupportsthemodernizationofutilityinfrastructurebyreplacingmanual-readmeterswithAdvancedMeteringInfrastructure(AMI)orAutomatedMeterReading(AMR)technology.Thisisahigh-volume,field-basedrolerequiringefficiency,attentiontodetail,mechanicalability,accuratedataentry,andprofessionalinteractionwithcustomers.

KeyResponsibilities
