Weston & Sampson is seeking a Water Infrastructure Project Engineer to join our Drinking Water Program. In this role, you'll help plan, evaluate, design, and improve the municipal water infrastructure that communities depend on every day.

You’ll contribute to a variety of projects, including water main design and replacement, water distribution system improvements, pump stations, water storage, and drinking water treatment. Working primarily with municipal clients, you’ll help evaluate existing infrastructure, identify system deficiencies, and develop practical engineering solutions that support reliable water service and long-term capital improvement needs.

You’ll work alongside a collaborative team of water professionals, with opportunities to expand your technical skills, take on new responsibilities, and learn from experienced engineers. From developing design calculations and construction plans to visiting project sites and supporting construction administration, you’ll gain exposure to multiple phases of project delivery while building a strong foundation for career growth.

If you enjoy solving engineering challenges, working on a variety of projects, and seeing your work make a tangible difference in local communities, we’d like to hear from you.

This position is based in one of our Reading, Foxborough, or Worcester, MA, and Rocky Hill, CT offices. Onsite work is required at the assigned office location.

What You'll Do

  • Design municipal water infrastructure: Prepare engineering plans, design calculations, specifications, and construction documents for water main replacements and extensions, pump stations, water storage facilities, and drinking water treatment projects.
  • Evaluate existing water systems: Review system data and infrastructure conditions to identify deficiencies, assess performance, and recommend improvements that support water quality, reliability, and municipal capital improvement goals.
  • Support projects from start to finish: Contribute to project planning, permitting, design development, construction administration, and closeout, gaining experience across the full project lifecycle.
  • Manage multiple assignments: Work across several projects at a time, coordinating priorities, meeting deadlines, and collaborating with project managers and technical staff to deliver quality work.
  • Prepare technical documentation: Conduct engineering analyses, review data, and prepare technical reports, calculations, plans, and specifications.
  • Participate in fieldwork and construction reviews: Visit project sites at various stages, observe existing conditions, and review contractor work to help ensure construction aligns with approved plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate with clients and project teams: Communicate with municipal clients, contractors, and colleagues to address technical questions, resolve project challenges, and keep deliverables moving forward.
  • Continue developing your expertise: Learn from experienced engineers, share ideas, and gradually take on greater technical responsibility as you grow within the Drinking Water Program.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience involving water infrastructure, municipal utilities, or civil engineering design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience preparing or interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical documentation and work collaboratively with clients and project teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • A collaborative mindset, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and contribute in a team environment.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Additional Experience We'd Welcome

  • Experience with municipal drinking water systems, water distribution networks, water main design, pump stations, water storage, or treatment facilities.
  • Familiarity with Revit.
  • Exposure to construction administration, permitting, capital improvement planning, project budgeting, or cost estimating.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, or progress toward meeting the requirements for licensure.
