Job summary

GFT seeks a dynamic Water Design Engineer to join our Northeast offices in a hybrid-remote setup, requiring 3 on-site days per week. The role focuses on planning and designing water and wastewater infrastructure, including site visits, reporting, permitting, and construction observation to support sustainable water solutions.

Ideal candidates will have a BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering and 1–4 years of related experience, with strong communication skills and proficiency in AutoCAD,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering required.
  • 1-4 years’ water/wastewater engineering experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist planning, design and construction of water, wastewater and municipal projects.
  • Conduct site visits, surveys and inspections; assist data collection.
  • Prepare reports and design plans; develop cost estimates.
  • Review subdivision/land development, stormwater, and zoning plans.
  • Prepare permit applications and provide construction observation services.
  • Coordinate grant/funding applications.

What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a dynamic and driven Water Design Engineer to work in one of our offices in the North East. This position follows a hybrid-remote work format, with 3 days required on site per week.

What You'll Be Challenged To Do

The Water Design Engineer will assist in the planning, design, and construction of water, wastewater, and municipal infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include conducting site visits, preparing reports and design documents, reviewing development and stormwater plans, supporting permitting efforts, and performing construction observation and field services.

In this capacity, you will be responsible for the following
  • Participate in the planning, design and construction administration of water, wastewater and municipal infrastructure facilities/projects
  • Conduct site visits, surveys and inspections, and assist with data collection and compilation for utility infrastructure projects
  • Prepare reports
  • Develop design plans, specifications and cost estimates
  • Review Subdivision, Land Development, Grading and Zoning plans, including review and development of Stormwater Management and Erosion and Sediment Control plans
  • Prepare federal, state and local permit applications
  • Perform construction observation and field engineering services
  • Prepare grant/funding applications
Education | Experience:
What You Will Bring To Our Firm
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 1-4 years’ of related experience in water/wastewater engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to assist in/conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports.
  • Experience working with municipal and private utilities.
  • Progressive experience in evaluation, design, permitting and construction administration of infrastructure improvements will be favorably considered.
  • Physically able to perform work in the field.
  • Team player possessing strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of BIM, Civil 3D, GIS, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling or other specialty engineering software.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite and use of standard engineering software.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or the ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification within 3 months of hire required.
Compensation

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $100,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
