Job summary

The City of La Porte is hiring a Water Distribution System Operator Level 1 to support the Water Department. This role performs manual, skilled, and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution system.

You will respond to emergencies, install and repair water services and meters, operate heavy equipment, and maintain records. Applicants must have a high school diploma or HSE, be 18+, and able to work weekends or on-call shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or HSE required.
• Must be 18+ and able to pass a drug test.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines and handling chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled and semi-skilled work on water distribution systems.
• Respond to emergencies and dig trenches, open manholes.
• Install and repair water services and meters; maintain records.
• Inspect hydrants and test chlorine/hydraulic systems.
• Operate heavy and light equipment and maintain tools.
