Job summary

Woodard & Curran is seeking a Water Distribution O&M Technician in Missouri to participate in operations, maintenance and repairs of the water distribution system. You will repair pipes, valves, hydrants and appurtenances and operate heavy equipment in field settings.

Candidates may be licensed or experienced professionals in water/sewer operations. The role includes irregular schedule and overtime, with opportunities for growth and certification support.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; mechanical/technical/vocational education or experience is a plus.
  • Ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 40 pounds regularly.
  • Valid Missouri driver's license; CDL preferred.
  • 1+ year relevant experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Knowledge of distribution system repair, maintenance and installation.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and preventive maintenance.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Repair water pipes, valves, hydrants and appurtenances.

  • Weld and fabricate parts/tools as needed.

Position Overview

As a Water Distribution O&M Technician, you will participate in the operations, maintenance and repairs of the water distribution system. You will repair water pipes, valves, hydrants and other appurtenances; operate a variety of heavy equipment such as excavators, track loaders, vac‑trucks and backhoes; weld and fabricate parts and tools; repair water mains; respond to and resolve customer complaints; repair streets, driveways and yards following installation operations; assist in locating, inspecting new lines, and other related duties.

Positions are available for licensed, experienced operations and maintenance professionals, and for inexperienced individuals looking for their first full‑time job or those in the water/sewer industry seeking to make a career change. Those filling these rewarding, full‑time positions will be part of a team responsible for the operation and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and/or process control at water and wastewater facilities.

Schedule

Will require an irregular work schedule and overtime hours.

Responsibilities
  • Repair water pipes, valves, hydrants and other appurtenances.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, track loaders, vac‑trucks and backhoes.
  • Weld and fabricate parts and tools.
  • Repair water mains.
  • Respond to and resolve customer complaints.
  • Repair streets, driveways and yards following installation operations.
  • Assist in locating, inspecting new lines.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Positive attitude and work ethic.
  • High School graduate or equivalent; a mechanical/technical/vocational school background or experience is a plus.
  • A valid Missouri motor vehicle operator's license. A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.
  • The ability to perform manual labor; must be able to lift or move up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Minimum of 1‑year relevant experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and installation of distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of the operation and preventative maintenance of a variety of equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.
  • DSI minimum or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months.
  • Class A CDL preferred / Class B with Air Brakes or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a DOT background check, DOT pre‑placement physical and DOT drug screen before employment.
Physical Demands
  • May stand, walk, or move for 6 to 8 hours daily.
  • May sit for 1 to 3 hours daily.
  • May perform operations and maintenance functions requiring manual dexterity and precision movements, continuous or repetitive arm and hand movements, grasping movements, and occasional forceful exertion.
  • Exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending and reaching, climbing stairs and ladders.
  • May lift, carry, push/pull objects and materials regularly up to 40 pounds.
  • Perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odors, depth and visual cues or signals.
