YMCA of East Tennessee seeks a dedicated group exercise instructor to lead classes in a safe, engaging environment aligned with the Y’s policies and Judeo-Christian mission values. Expect to foster member wellness, build relationships, and support the organization’s outreach efforts.
Candidates should have at least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes and must maintain CPR/First Aid certification, along with YMCA-specific certifications.
Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with Y policies and procedures. There are no supervisory responsibilities.
Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.
There are no education requirements. At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred. Area(s) of expertise certifications and training required.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to quickly changing room temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Frequently required to talk or hear. Must be able to conduct classes and activities. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of the organization.
