Job summary

City and County of Honolulu seeks a Sanitary Chemist II to perform chemical and microbiological analyses in the field and laboratory, focusing on wastewater and water quality. The position is based in Honolulu with a planned move to Kapolei in the spring, and requires at least one year of professional lab experience and a degree in chemistry or biology or an approved substitute.

Qualifications

• One year of professional experience in a chemical or microbiological laboratory.
• Knowledge of chemistry and microbiology principles and practices as they relate to wastewater and water analyses.
• Ability to gather, organize, analyze and interpret field and laboratory data; maintain records and prepare reports.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and collect samples from wastewater treatment plants and collection systems.
• Conduct analyses of wastewater influent/effluent, industrial discharges, sludge, sediment, and fish tissue for organic pollutants.
• Apply Quality Control/Quality Assurance procedures throughout protocols.
