Job summary

Veolia Group in Michigan seeks a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to manage and optimize plant systems, ensuring compliant discharge and reliable operation across 12-hour night shifts. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to follow detailed instructions, and a team mindset to support continuous improvements.

You will monitor motors, pumps and valves, collect samples, test for impurities, analyze data to prevent problems, and coordinate maintenance with other teams.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google equivalents.
• Strong communication skills, both verbally and written.
• Ability to make process changes based on lab data and general process knowledge.
• Lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet, stand for long periods, walk on uneven surfaces, and maneuver in tight spaces.
• Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Maintain operational coverage of the Wastewater facility across all scheduled shifts (primarily 12-hour nights).
• Operate motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow; collect and test samples for concentration and impurities.
• Analyze lab data to identify issues and implement changes to prevent non-compliance; maintain records.
• Coordinate with other operators and management to maintain equipment and determine treatment methods.
• Perform preventive maintenance and assist with minor maintenance like pump repair and valve replacement.
• Compile daily/weekly/monthly operating reports for Veolia and facility management; may report to EPA/state bodies.
• Coordinate with Purchasing to order wastewater supplies and schedule third-party maintenance as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for controlling the Wastewater treatment plant's systems and equipment to purify and clarify water for permitted industrial discharge at the Wastewater facility.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain complete operational coverage of the Wastewater facility throughout all scheduled shifts (primarily 12-hour night shifts)
• Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow; collect and test wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities
• Analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non-compliance; maintain accurate record keeping of client data
• Coordinate with other operators, Wastewater facility, and Veolia management to maintain wastewater treatment equipment and determine optimal treatment methods
• Complete all preventative maintenance at designated frequencies and assist with minor maintenance projects including chemical pump repair, valve replacement, and piping installation
• Compile data for daily, weekly, or monthly operating reports to Veolia and Wastewater facility management; may compile data for EPA or state regulatory bodies
• Coordinate with Veolia purchasing department to order wastewater treatment supplies and with Facility to schedule third-party maintenance support
• Other Duties as assigned

Required:

• Wastewater entry level licensing or certification

Working Conditions

• Typical working conditions include a wastewater treatment plant and outdoors
• Exposure to extreme weather conditions (extreme heat and cold)
• Potential exposure to burns, chemicals, dangerous systems, dirt and dust, electrical hazards, grease and oil, loud noises, vibrations, steam and high levels of moisture, and other hazardous conditions
• Physical requirements: lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb a vertical ladder up to 30 feet, stand for long periods of time, walk on uneven surfaces, regular bending, climb onto and exit a forklift in a safe manner, use of extension ladders on a daily basis, ability to climb into and maneuver body in tight spaces
• Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed, with primary shift designation being 12-hour night shifts
