Job summary

American Water Works Service Company, Inc. is seeking a Wastewater Collection Technician to maintain the district’s wastewater collection system.

The role involves day-to-day operations, including mains, lateral lines, meters, and related appurtenances, with responsibilities spanning safety, records, and routine repairs. The candidate should have 0–2 years in the water/wastewater industry, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL and IEPA certificate within specified

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 0-2 years minimum in water or wastewater industry.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer.
• DOT Medical card within 6 months of hire or transfer.
• Illinois IEPA Wastewater Collections Certificate or the ability to obtain within 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and ensure reliable operation of the district’s wastewater collection system.
• Perform day-to-day maintenance including sanitary sewer mains, lateral lines, flow meters and related appurtenances.
• Operate heavy equipment such as forklift, Jetter truck, CCTV equipment and related duties.
• Create work orders for maintenance within the system of record; admin duties in written and oral formats.
• Perform emergency repairs, preventive maintenance, and support special projects as assigned by management.

Hours/Shift

Must be available to work the following schedule.

• Monday - Friday 7AM - 3:30 PM.
• On-call rotations.
• Must be flexibleand willing to work some weekend/holiday work.

Primary Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the task necessary to maintain and ensure reliable operation of the district’s wastewater collection system. Maintenance tasks include performing all work associated with its day-to-day operations, including but not limited to sanitary sewer mains, sanitary sewer lateral lines, flow meters, storm surge/storage structures, air release/control valves, telemetry/SCADA systems, and related appurtenances. The successful candidate will be given tasks that require technical, mechanical and wastewater collections system knowledge in addition to operations of heavy equipment including a forklift, excavation equipment, dump truck, Jetter truck, CCTV equipment and any other duties as assigned by management.Duties will include having a strong knowledge of safety and operations policies and procedures. Effective use of our system of record. Ability to create work orders for maintenance within our system of record. Administration duties in both written and oral formats. Perform emergency repair work, routine daily work, scheduled annual preventive maintenance work, special project needs, and other tasks as assigned by the Foreperson and by management. Perform annual maintenance program tasks, including but not limited to using fire hydrants to fill Jetter trucks, exercising of gate valves, cleaning/jetting of sewer mains, CCTV inspections, smoke testing and flow meter work associated with sewer mains, inspection/cleaning of storage structures, and equipment/vehicle maintenance.
