Job summary

Charlotte County in Florida is seeking a Plant Operator to ensure safe, compliant operation of our wastewater treatment facilities. The role covers starting and stopping plant machinery, monitoring control systems, collecting samples, and performing routine inspections to maintain performance and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates will have the required high school diploma or GED, relevant operator certifications, and several years of experience, with opportunities to lead and train

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; GED must be ACE-approved.
• 1 year of wastewater/water treatment experience for Operator C.
• 3 years of experience for Operator B; licenses may be required.
• 5 years of experience with lead or supervisory duties for Operator A; appropriate licenses.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor wastewater treatment plant equipment and control systems.
• Inspect, adjust, clean, and perform minor repairs on equipment.
• Conduct routine laboratory analyses to monitor treatment effectiveness.
• Prepare required reports and daily logs; assist mechanics with major repairs.
• Potential lead responsibilities: train and guide trainees and other staff, while ensuring safety and service quality.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

GED accepted via FDEP program

Experience: 1 year in wastewater/water treatment

Experience: 3 years in wastewater/water treatment

Experience: 5 years with lead/supervisory
