Job summary

City of Columbia is seeking a skilled operator to run heavy equipment in the Wastewater Department and perform maintenance on streets and drainage systems. You will support sewer work and street repairs while keeping vehicles and tools in safe, working condition.

The role requires knowledge of safety rules, traffic regulations, and operation of various machinery, with basic Microsoft Office skills. A Class B CDL is preferred; the position is based on site and includes emergency response duties

Qualifications

• Knowledge of hazards and safety rules and precautions in heavy equipment operation.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in equipment operation.
• Knowledge of safe, efficient operation of assigned equipment and observance of traffic laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of street layouts and routes.
• Must possess computer application skills that at a minimum include Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy and other specialized equipment in the Wastewater Department.
• Performs maintenance and repairs on city streets, rights‑of‑ways, and drainage systems.
• Assists in asphalt patching and repairing streets after construction and sewer work.
• Maintains vehicles and equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency.
